The Intex PureSpa Plus Hydrojet Inflatable Hot Tub is arguably the best luxury inflatable hot tub on the market. The reason that it is has been so successful is because Intex took a proven design and made it even better. Intex started with the durable, easy to maintain design of the PureSpa, and added the internal hardware necessary to support jets. The result of this engineering is an inflatable hot tub that remains portable and convenient, but rivals the lavish experience of fixed tubs that often are 10 times more expensive.
We wanted to start off by bragging about the distinguishing feature of this tub, which is its built-in jets. True spa jets pump high-pressure water into the cistern, which results in a massage-like sensation whenever those jet streams contact the body. Most inflatable hot tubs do not have jets because this requires significant hardware additions to the tub walls and pump system. Pipes need to be ran through the tub walls and a high power water pump needs to be added to the heating unit to move the high-pressure water through the jets. Most inflatable hot tubs choose not to include real jets and, instead, use bubble jets. Bubble jets pump air back into the tub, not water, which does create a nice bubbly tub, but does not provide any kind of massage sensation that actual jets provide. The Intex PureSpa Plus has has four real spa jets. The spa jets create an authentic spa experience with massaging jet streams.

The extra hardware costs money, which means that the Plus model is more expensive than the base PureSpa model. But, if you are looking for a luxurious spa experience that compares to what you would get from a fixed tub that may cost 10 times as much, then the price is justified. We love the jets and believe that the PureSpa Plus is the best inflatable hot tub on the market for achieving the true lavish spa experience.
The PureSpa Plus uses the same thick, durable 3-ply material that the base PureSpa uses. The fabric has a polyester core and a layer of vinyl on each side of the polyester. Polyester is a woven fabric, which provides strength and resistance to tearing. Vinyl is almost like a layer of plastic and provides a waterproof barrier on each side of the polyester. When these materials are stacked, they form three layers, which is where the term 3-ply comes from. Intex outsources the production of the fabric to a company called Fiber-Tech. This is pretty common, and we are supporters of this practice. The material used to construct the walls of the tub is very important so we like to see a company that specializes in manufacturing high-quality waterproof material handle the construction of the material. This means that when you buy a PureSpa Plus, you will be receiving a product built by a company that specializes in inflatables and pools, constructed with fabric built by a company that specializes in fabrics.
You can sit on the tub walls of the PureSpa Plus and barely notice any give. If you didn’t already know it was an inflatable hot tub, you might actually be surprised because of how solid the walls get when fully inflated. Intex is able to achieve this high pressure, which was easily able to support the weight of one of our heavier testers without sagging, by connecting the inner and outer wall with high strength fibers. These fibers prevent the tub walls from expanding outwards. The entire tub wall air compartment shares the same air so when you sit on the edge the additional pressure is spread throughout the tub walls evenly. This reduces the risk of failure due to extra pressure at a specific point. The PureSpa Plus is able to maintain that high pressure for around 6 months without needing additional air. After half a year if you need to add more air, you can easily do so straight from the air pump while the tub is still holding water.
The Intex PureSpa Plus is 77 inches wide at its outer walls and has a 57 inch diameter usable soaking area. It is rated as a 4-person tub, which is appropriate because there is a jet for each person then. You can fit more than 4 people in the tub, but there gets to be a lot of leg contact when you add that 5th person to the tub.
The heat pump in the Plus model is the same pump that Intex uses on for the PureSpa 6-person tub, which holds much more water. A pump that is sufficient for a 290 gallon 6-person tub should be able to provide outstanding performance when it only needs to process 210 gallons. We are big fans of the oversized pump on a the smaller tub because it is able to increase water temperature by 3° F/hour, while some of its competitors are only able to increase water temperature by 1° F/hour. The pump processes the water at 460 gallons/hr which is plenty to keep water clean. We keep the same water in our tub for an entire season, and it is clean and free of debris 6 months after we first added the water to the tub. Because the pump is able to heat the water so quickly, the PureSpa Plus is a good tub to take on trips. During the summer, especially if the tub is in the sun during the day, you should be able to fill the tub in the morning and soak in it that evening. The main reason that we like the powerful pump, though, is because it is able to maintain the max 104° F temperature in cold air conditions. The tub is rated at 39° F, but our tub has been able to maintain max temp at temperatures much lower than that. One thing to note, though, is that inflatable hot tubs are not suitable for use below freezing because there runs a risk of pipes cracking from frozen water. One of the unique features that Intex includes with this pump unit, is a hard water treatment system. This system removes hard substances from the water, making water gentler and crating an even more soothing experience. Intex is the only brand that has this feature.
It only really takes one person to set up the Intex PureSpa Plus. At Tub Headquarters, we’ve set up so many inflatable hot tubs that we are able to set this one up in around 30 minutes. All you need to do to set up the tub is lay out the ground mat, set the tub on top of the ground mat and inflate it. The air pump inside the pump unit that powers the bubble massage jets also inflates the tub. There is a hose included that you use for inflation. Everything that you need to use the tub is included when you purchase the product, except chlorine. After you inflate the tub, fill it with water, and attach the pump unit. It takes a while to fill the tub with water, so allow yourself about an hour in total for setup. Maintenance is also easy. Clean the filters every few months and sprinkle granulated chlorine into the tub every few days.
The Intex PureSpa Plus 4-Person Hydrojet Spa is the best inflatable hot tub that you can buy if you are looking for jets. It is more expensive than the base model, but we think that the extra cost is worth it because it is able to provide the true hot tub experience. This product bridges the gap between inflatable hot tubs and fixed ones and makes us wonder why anybody would spend thousands of dollars on a fixed tub when they can get the same luxurious experience from this product. Aside from the hydrojets, we also like this tub because it is durable and easy to set up. The heat pump is very strong which means it can maintain max temperature in near freezing air temperatures. Intex has figured out how to make a great tub, and they showcase it in the PureSpa Plus with the sturdy walls, powerful pump and overall attention to detail.
