Of course, there are many ways for a pregnant woman to relax, but not all of them are exactly safe for a body that is carrying a baby. Taking a long, relaxing bath is not only enjoyable, but also necessary.

This is especially important during the first trimester when a rise in temperature could cause the baby to develop brain and spinal cord defects.

How to Use a Hot Tub Safely When You’re Pregnant
First off, if you’re in the first trimester of your pregnancy then you might want to avoid hot tubs in general. As we said before, the high temperatures could cause serious birth defects, so it’s best to just say no to hot tubs during this time. If you’re past the first trimester, you can spend a little bit of time in a hot tub.
Make sure to follow these tips very closely to avoid any dangers:
- You should never spend more than 10 minutes at a time in a hot tub. Also, make sure that you give yourself time to cool off in between sessions.
- If the hot water jets are on, sit on the opposite side where the water is a tad bit cooler.
As soon as you start to feel too sweaty, immediately get out of the hot tub. Sit down to give yourself time to cool down.
- If possible, keep your chest above the water. In fact, it’s best to just keep only the lower half of your body in the water.
- If you start sweating, or you feel nauseous or dizzy, then immediately get out of the water. Make sure to closely monitor your body until it goes back to normal
- Don’t use your hot tub if you have a fever.
Other Ways to Relax While Pregnant
You’re going to experience plenty of stress and discomfort throughout your nine months of pregnancy. If hot tub during pregnancy is not an option for you and your baby, there are still plenty of other ways for you to get the relaxation that you need.
Self-Love is Important
Pregnancy is a time of overwhelming emotions, so you have to take some time every day to give yourself the love that you need. Take a warm bath (other than in a hot tub), listen to your favorite music, take a nap, or read a book. As long as you are spending a little bit of time every day taking care of your own needs, then your mind should feel a little less restless.
Exercise actually releases a chemical in your brain known as endorphins. Endorphins are one of the “happy” chemicals in your brain, necessary for your overall well being. If you’re feeling a bit bummed out, or so stressed that you’re nearly pulling your hair out, try doing some light exercises. This equals having a hot tub session.

Because pregnancy is full of intense emotions, it’s important to find a solid group of friends and family that you can turn to on the worst days. Knowing that you’re not alone is unbelievably helpful on those days when things seem hopeless or too frustrating to comprehend.

Complete relaxation can be hard to find while you’re pregnant, but it’s not impossible.
